(🎄Christmas Countdown⛄) SONG OF THE DAY The Gurus – Blue Snow Night

PrimaryFormed at the peak of the psychedelic era, The Gurus were an American band that emerged with the promise of great things, but never made it past one album! Known for their pioneering and experimental sounds, they were among the first bands to incorporate Middle Eastern influences into their music, giving their sound an exotic edge!

Sadly, the band broke up without making a large impact on the music scene at the time, but did manage to release two singles on United Artists Records in 1966 and 1967. Released via United Artists, today’s song was backed with Come Girl in 1966, followed a the following year by It Just Won’t Be That Way b/w Everybodys Got To Be Alone Sometime.

Their debut album, The Gurus Are Hear, failed to be released in 1967 and became one of the sole reasons for the band splitting up. As to why United Artists cancelled the album’s release only weeks from its release date still remains a mystery!! Thankfully, the album was saved from the vaults and finally released on CD in 2003. To this day, a vinyl issue of the album has never been released!!

Whilst I appreciate “Blue Snow Night” isn’t directly a Christmassy song, the very mention of that sacred white stuff makes me think of the Winter Solstice and all things Yule! So why not, eh! This is the first instalment of the LP Blog’s Christmas Countdown!

If you fancy reading some more about The Gurus, you can do that here! Enjoy!
