SONG OF THE DAY The Scorpions & Saif Abu Bakr – Azzah Music

Originally recorded sometime between the late 70’s/early 80’s, Jazz Jazz Jazz is the only album that the Sudanese band, The Scorpions ever recorded. Accompanied by the Sudanese saxophone player, Seif Abu Bakr, this record is now highly sought after and has fetched crazy high amounts on Ebay for an original copy!

Combining powerful horn arrangements, spirited drumming and a hearty dose of glorious funk, Seif’s sax playing unites these sounds into what is a rather joyous record! With hints of 1970’s crime thriller soundtracks these songs offer modern adaptations of traditional Sudanese-rooted songs and the result is both tender and soulful!

A series of political events during the mid-1980’s led to the break up of many Sudanese jazz bands and The Scorpions dissolved as a group around the same time. After the end of the band’s activity Amir continued to be a full-time musician, whilst Seif Abu Bakr, the bands singer stayed in Kuwait after the recordings of the album. Not many copies of their one and only record exist, hence the high prices it continues to fetch, but the good news is that the wondrous Habibi Funk reissued this a few years back!

So, all ten tracks are now available to anyone out there who adores this vibrant sound! Azzah Music introduced me to this band/album, so this is what I am sharing today! I do love its waltzing rhythm and the way it holds you in its warm and embracing grip. It’s a little beauty! See what you think and check it out above.

I’ve also included the whole album below – from which you can tap on the link and purchase a copy, should you wish! Enjoy!
