This is one song that always sends tiny shivers down my spine when I play it. I love the whistling intro followed by that voice! Ahhhh, that voice, it does magic things to me and there is no need for anything else. The echo of delicate strings as they rhythmically strum an unassuming melody, hinting upon a tune that pours out from feather-soft vocals, weightless in their delivery.
Translating as Full Moon Tune, Tonada de luna llena was a song released by Venezuelan singer Simón Narciso Díaz Márquez, better known as Simón Díaz. Accompanied by Hugo Blanco and his band, this gorgeous track was issued as a single in 1965 on the Venezuelan label, Palacio. By far the better song on the single, this appeared on the B-side, accompanying Que Va Mi Amor on the 45.
Also known as Tío Simón in his native country, Simón Díaz is something of a legend and a man of many talents. As well as singing/songwriting/composing, he was also a comedian and actor, celebrating a career that spanned over 50 years! His songs have been extremely influential in re-popularising the traditional music of the Venezuelan llanos (or plains) and have since earned him numerous awards, including a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as “The Great Ribbon of the Liberator’s Order” (which is the highest civilian honor granted by the Venezuelan state).
Tonada de Luna Llena speaks of the calm beauty of the full moon and I couldn’t think of a voice more worthy of the job than that of Simón Díaz..I bet even the moon would be smitten with this serenade! Enjoy!

I can see why he’s considered a legend… his delivery is so soft and yet it hits you with so much emotion. The simplicity of the instrumentals really lets his abilities shine. Very beautiful reccomendation!!
