Joannis Alexandres Veliotes, a.k.a Johnny Otis has sooo many songs & compositions to his name, where do you begin?
His sixty-year career hosted a wealth of releases and his music influenced so many – as well as having a major impact on the way R&B and Rock’n’Roll was shaped! As a label owner and talent scout, it was this diamond that discovered artists such as Little Esther, Big Mama Thornton, Jackie Wilson, Little Willie John and Hank Ballard! Such was his impact, who knows where these sounds would be if it wasn’t for his music!!
Country Girl (b/w Bye Bye Baby (Until We Meet Again) is just a yummy slice of cool that Johnny Otis issued as a single in 1968 on Kent Records. The funky guitar solo is credited to Shuggie Otis, Johnny’s eldest son and its plain to see from this groove that the apple certainly didn’t fall from that magical music tree!! Enjoy!
