SONG OF THE DAY Oisin Leech – October Sun

Though this track is nice and gentle – which is a welcome escape in these crazy times – I have just discovered that it is actually about the breakdown with our relationship with nature.. Well, of sorts.

Previously one half ot the duo that is The Lost Brothers, Irish songwriter Oisin Leech has recently embarked on a solo career. His first first single, October Sun, was issued at the end of last month. Produced and recorded by Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, Steve Gunn, the track also features Portland-based musician M Ward and Tony Garner.

Speaking of the song, Oisin Leech explained how, “this song is visual. It’s a journey…a travelogue. The refrain of the chorus is a lament pleading with nature…. asking what have you done….”

Though nature may just be thinking the same about us?…… Further explaining the track, I have also just read that the yearning and soulfulness Leech expresses in this song “questions nature’s intentions and sheds light on the repercussions of a ruthless humanity….” So, perhaps not the light bit of escapism I first anticipated when I first caught this, but it is a dear little track and I like that it questions. I like that it grasps at heavy topics with an innocent approach.

I like the haze of the video too, it just adds to that already heady wistful feeling..If you like this song and fancy grabbing a copy, October Sun can be purchased from Oisin’s Bandcamp page, here. Enjoy.
