SONG OF THE DAY Septeto Santiaguero – Amor Silvestre

PrimaryThough today’s fiery delight is actually a cover, I love it to bits and think that it has paid homage to the original in a positively magical way!

Amor Silvestre is a song originally written by Cuban singer-songwriter, Lorenzo Hierrezuelo and released by his band Los Compadres in 1957…and of course I couldn’t help but include this absolute beauty in the post too (see below).

In 2012 Amor Silvestre was re-released by a Cuban band called Septeto Santiaguero, who featured the track on their Vamos Pa’ La Fiesta album. Formed in 1995, the groups line-up consists of members of from an early 1960’s band called Melodias de Ayer – perhaps this is what gives them such an authentic sound? Their rendition of Amor Silvestre breathes fire into its sonic soul, injecting the fuel of a powerful horn section into this impassioned beast. Their cover definitely takes the song into another realm, but what I also love is how this version captures and reinterprets the original intensity. The version is different, but the power is there! It’s a beauty! Check it out above and hear the original below…
