SONG OF THE DAY Valerie June – Workin’ Woman Blues

photoValerie June Hockett, aka Valerie June, cooked up some hot musical magic when she wrote today’s song,  “Workin’ Woman Blues.”  Built upon gathering layers, this stunning folk-based track is driven by an upbeat rhythm, steered by warm acoustic melodies and then injected with an interesting infusion of brass two thirds of the way through; these tuneful elements blending together to form a multi-textured backdrop for June’s vocals to soar though, and soar they do.

Described by the lady herself as “magical,” this song was produced and engineered by Peter Sabák and completed in about 30 minutes!  Today’s song is taken from Valerie June’s fourth album, ‘Pushin’ Against a Stone’ which was released in  August 2013 and co-produced by Kevin Augunas and Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.  Listen above.
