When you’ve got a lot of things to do and tasks to finish on a sunny Saturday, what do you do….you spend ages listening to music of course! At least that’s what I’ve done today, that and enjoy the sun, the tasks can wait!
There are many versions of Summertime out there, but Janis Joplin’s takes a lot of beating, and after hearing this today for the first time in ages, I felt compelled to share..
Joplin’s version of the Gershwin jazz classic appeared on hit Big Brother album, Cheap Thrills. What’s spectacular about this record isn’t its chart success, but the fact it shows how Joplin was able to truly redefine a song as her own. Her version Summertime is brimming with emotion and raw power! Listen above.
