Edmonton-born and now Montreal-based singer-songwriter and producer, Michael Rault has opened shows for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as well as Daptone legend Charles Bradley and tomorrow will be releasing his new album courtesy of Daptone’s subsidiary Wick Records.
It’s A New Day Tonight was co-produced and recorded by Daptone’s Wayne Gordon at Daptone’s House of Soul in Brooklyn NY and is to be Rault’s debut for the label. Many of the album’s songs look at nocturnal activities, particularly sleep, as Rault explains, “Sleeping and dreaming were attractive concepts. I was looking for an escape from a lot of frustrating and dissatisfying conditions in my day-to-day life.”
One discernible feature that completely draws me in is the shimmering, bright quality to Rault’s music; it radiates a dreamy, familiar warmth whilst sounding so very cool all at the same time!
It’s a New Day Tonight releases tomorrow via Sleepless Records in Canada and Daptone imprint Wick Records in the US. Grab your copy from here.
