As a means of celebrating the very long and vibrant musical career of Nigerian Afrobeat guitar legend Oghene Kologbo, Paris DJs have dedicated the 6th of each month to releasing one of his brand new songs, entitling this day “Kologbo Day.”
Last month no new tune was released, but it was a Kologbo day anyway, since it was the day the former Fela Kuti’s Afrika 70 tenor guitarist arrived in Nigeria, and the celebration happened secretly there… He’s now back in France and hard-working, which mostly means touring and recording new music.
This months track is entitled Gbo Gbo Eniyan and features Papagee (from Boye PapaGee & Colours Afrobeat) on vocals, the horn & rhythmic sections from the paris-based Monkuti band, and production by Paris DJs’ main man Grant Phabao. In true Kologbo style, this song is buzzing with his dazzling guitar work and vibrant, upbeat vocals.
