SONG OF THE DAY Jackie Mittoo – Juice Box

PrimaryLiterally bursting with sweet summer goodness, today’s sonic ray of sunbeams was introduced to me earlier (thank you, you know who you are) and I love the energy that it brings me today! Juice Box was one of 12-sizzling instrumental tracks to feature on Jackie Mittoo’s 1969 album, Keep On Dancing (which I’ve pasted in its entirety below for your listening pleasure!).

Aptly titled, this groove-laden record offers a buoyant feast of classic soul/reggae and, like many of his fellow session players, Jackie Mittoo channelled many U.S soul and funk influences to concoct this unique Jamaican musical style in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  Issued on Coxsone Records, this album was the third solo effort by Mittoo who, by that time, had already established his reputation as an important contributor to the Skatalites’ catalog and Clement “Coxsone” Dodd’s Studio.

Juice Box is definitely more soul-orientated tracks and I love the pure vibrancy coming from those dancing keys. Horns splutter their funky goodness throughout, punctuating this delicious sound as the  shimmering beats dazzle with rhythmic prowess! Everything about this song makes you feel good and that is a precious thing to behold! Enjoy
