Invariably, when I hear a great sample in any song I often opt to feature the original, but in this case (as with the other Danger Mouse track I’ve featured last year) the song song that actually features the sample wins the day!
Issued last year, Cheat Codes was Danger Mouse’s first hip-hop album in 17 years – since his 2005 DangerDOOM collaboration with the late, MF DOOM! Teaming up with Black Thought of The Roots, this record is also the first full-length collaboration for Black Thought too (beyond his music in The Roots).
Featured track No Gold Teeth is saturated when it comes to cool, and those big giant beats and crisp vocals are perfectly complemented by that well-sampled melody. Taken from Hugh Masekela’s The Promise Of A Future (listen below), that funky riff and those vocal cuts are more than at home in No Gold Teeth! The two forces marry together wonderfully and out comes this wall of sassy sound!
Listen above and check out the rest of Cheat Codes below! Enjoy!
