SONG OF THE DAY The Sound Offs – The Angry Desert

PrimaryToday’s little obscurity was the only track ever released by The Sound Offs, and it may not come as a surprise to discover that an original copy of this 45 is still fetching nearly £200! Such is its rarity, you can’t even listen to the B-side – Working Up a Steam – as this doesn’t exist anywhere online! If anyone has a copy, you know what to do!

Released on LA label Era Records in 1963, the song-writing credits for this track goes to a man named Steven Howard, who just so happened to be the alias of Herbert Newman – he was the owner of Era Records! According to sources the exotica delight that is The Angry Desert features some eerie backing vocals supplied by the BLOSSOMS which, at the time of recording, included the line-up of Fanita James, Gracia Nitzsche and Darlene Love! It’s a cracking tune with a haunted sound that emerges from a place that time forgot, piecing together a timeless instrumental that creeps under the skin…..Enjoy!
