SONG OF THE DAY Los Cheyenes – Chango

R-28249840-1694606340-4219There are a few sources that suggest Los Cheyenes were from Mexico, but I’m inclined to go with the majority that suggests they were actually a Spanish band from Barcelona,

Formed by brothers Roberto and Joselín Vercher (lead guitar and bass) sometime in the mid-1960’s, this garage-rock band also consisted of José María Garcés (rhythm guitar and backing vocals) and Ramón Colom (drums). Influenced by the likes of the Kinks and The Stones, Los Cheyenes were only wee nippers when they got together, with ages ranging from 15 to 19!

Towards the late 1960’s the band went through some line-up changes, with Roberto Vercher being replaced by José Luis Moro (lead guitar) and Michel Galera (vocals) and by 1968 they had sadly disbanded. During the 1970’s onwards, t looks like Joselin Vercher started another group called La Salseta Del Poble Sec, but with regards today’s song, I’m a little unclear as to who/when it was released as its issue date is 1975 – but Los Cheyenes had disbanded by then?

Chango was issued on a Mexican label called Discos Gas which, compared to their other material (from the litte I’ve heard that is), seems to be a bit of a curveball – in that it’s a far more funkier affair! A slow-steady groove defined by lots of lavish horns and cool a funk-keyboard melody! Nice! Enjoy!
