Issued in 1967 on Chisa Records (a label founded by Hugh Masekela and Stewart Levine and named after the Zulu word for “burn”), Have You Ever Seen The Blues was the only single released by Frederick Samuel Kotto – better known as Yaphet Kotto.
This powerful track was backed with Have You Dug The Scene on the b-side and showcased Kotto’s flare for poetry and music! Primarily, however, Yaphet Kotto was an actor and celebrated nearly five decades starring in an array of films and TV, including The Running Man, James Bond and Alien – to name but a tiny few!
It’s a shame Yaphet Kotto didn’t explore music more, his spoken-word delivery is really cool and I love the free-flowing rhythm he so naturally emanates…..Enjoy!
