SONG OF THE DAY The L.B’s – Of August Countenance

For a few years now, America’s Wax Thematique label have been unleashing their highly-grooved Funkways series, with their latest offering hatched only a few days ago!!

Funkways Series 4 comes to us via the cool sounds of Joel Ricci’s J.B’s (also known as Lucky Brown). Two tracks, one of which is created in the style of Mulatu Astatke and Hailu Mergia, with a discernible nod to all things Ethiojazz! This is the sound of Of August Countenance! Authentic, sinuous and masterful in its rhythmic delivery, this song pays homage to this genre with impeccable style!

The b-side is nowhere near as satisfying, but delivers a dreamy counterpart in the shape of a song called, Gazing Lovinly (feat Rezin Tooth).  Featured artists are listed below! Enjoy!

The Players:
Joel Ricci – Trumpet
Ben Bloom – Guitar
Grant Schroff – Drums
Jason Gray – Bass
Jason Cressey – Trombone
Peter Daniel – Saxophone
Art Brown – Saxophone
Nathan Spicer – Keyboards
Jacques Willis – Vibraphone
Tomer Zuk – Combo Organ
Eitan Drabkin – Synth
