Henry Canyons is an LA-based rapper whose music excitingly strays beyond the typical boundaries of hip-hop.
Taking to music at a very young age, the self-described Brooklinite-French-Jew was already trained as a jazz saxophonist before he even reached his teenage years.
He debuted in 2012 with the Vignettes album and has a breezy, laid back sound that blends west-coast vibes with a hint of east-coast grit. His flow is decidedly old-skool in terms of delivery accompanied by good beats and inviting melodies.
Henry Canyon released “Canyonland” on Bandcamp in June last year (covered by the LP Blog in May last May), but without any proper distribution behind it the album never gained the attention it so rightfully deserved. A year later German label Jakarta has got behind it and is due to re-release it as Jakarta Dubplate #6 on the 29th of this month.
Taken from this album comes ‘Music Man,’ which features the jazzy, soul-filled voice of Zoe Rose and, like the whole of Canyons, was produced by Keor Meteor. Listen above.
