SONG OF THE DAY Gwenifer Raymond – Deep Sea Diver Blues

Hailing from Wales but now residing in Brighton, Gwenifer Raymond is a Welsh multi-instrumentalist who, inspired by the punk and grunge scene when she was growing up,  began learning guitar when she was just eight.  After years of playing around the Welsh valleys in various punk outfits she began listening more to pre-war blues musicians as well as Appalachian folk players, which eventually got her into the guitar players of the American Primitive genre.

She has since been playing her own moody and, at times, manic original American Primitive styled compositions on guitar and banjo around the UK and the US.  Her debut 7″was released earlier this year on Tompkins Square (ahead of her debut album) and contains Deep Sea Diver Blues, a non-LP B-side instrumental track which is really rather captivating.. Check it out above.
