SONG OF THE DAY The Cotton Jones Basket Ride – Chewing Gum

I had to double check the release date of today’s song when I first heard it about half hour ago, because it flawlessly and authentically sounds like something from the late 60’s.  This particular track, however, only dates back to 2008, but its has that sun-drenched, hazy, dreamy, psych-pop sound that could quite easily fool you into believing it was 50-or-so years old.

I’d never heard of Maryland’s Cotton Jones (formerly The Cotton Jones Basket Ride) until this evening when I stumbled upon Chewing Gum, but these indie-psych folksters have a real nice, easy sound about them.  Currently signed to Suicide Squeeze Records, Cotton Jones were founded in 2008 and create a sound that fuses psychedelic folk, dream pop, baroque pop and Americana.

Chewing Gum features on the band’s debut LP, The River Strumming which, was perfectly described as being a “delightful slab of fuzzed-out dream folk” upon its release in 2008.  Check it out above.
