SONG OF THE DAY Michael Nau – I Root

A native of Maryland, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Naucrafts, a.k.a Michael Nau, formed his first band in Baltimore in 2004.

Encompassing all those fortunate to have discover him with his reflective indie/folk psych sounds,  Nau was also known for leading projects like Page France and Cotton Jones in the mid 2000’s to early 2010’s.  In 2016 he began recording alone under his own name, releasing his first solo album, Mowing, through London’s Full Time Hobby.

His soulful folk-rock sounds are often dreamy,  gripping you in what feels like a familiar hug as endless summer days descend upon you in the form of sun-drenched, Country-tinged melodies and warm, soothing lyrics.  In 2017 Nau released his second album, Some Twist which featured the delicious sounds of today’s track, I Root.  You will instantly hear what I mean about the natural dreaminess that spills from every tender note and just as an extra bonus you get to choose between two versions of this song! That same year Michael Nau released a seven-track EP called The Load which was recorded between Burlington, Vt. and Nashville and this offering also featured I Root (Trio Version).  A far more stripped back affair, I can’t decide which I prefer – perhaps if the Trio Version didn’t have the strings I would’ve liked both equally as much, but the album version is the one I’m featuring today. Check them both out and see what you think….
