SONG OF THE DAY Bohemian Vendetta – All Kinds of Highs

With its driving, nifty bassline and howling psychedelic guitars, All Kinds of Highs makes for a memorable garage track. Active between 1966-1968, Bohemian Vendetta were a US garage-rock band that created a very striking thick-fuzz, acid-psych sound! Band members included Nick Manzi, Brian Cooke, Chuck Monica, Victor Muglia, and Randy Pollock – all of whom contributed to a repertoire of one LP and a handful of 45’s

PrimaryTheir material is still highly regarded by many and an original mono copy of their self-titled album still fetches between £80-200!  After a series of raw beat demos and a single for United Artists, this Long Island-bred band got the chance to to record a full LP on the legendary Mainstream label in 1968 (Mainstream issued many new recordings such as the first records by Janis Joplin and Ted Nugent!). Their sole full-length consists of 8 original tracks, including two interesting covers: Rolling Stones (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction and The Animals House of the Rising Sun!

One review I read described the record by saying that it was “….maybe no masterpiece, waiting to change your life or blow your mind, but it is the essence of rock music, and too powerful to miss out on”..… I agree with this statement and wholly concur that this band may have not been ground-breaking or pioneering, but they rocked the sound of the time and captured the raw and gritty splendidness of psychedelia rather nicely… Taken from their only LP, All Kinds of Highs demonstrates this wonderfully! Check it out above.
