For one reason or another, blogging this week has been a challenge for the LP Blog and it saddens me to alert you, dear listeners, that today’s offering is the last one for a week! Taking a small break from it all, the LP Blog will return all refreshed and revitalised in a few days time!
In the meantime, feast your ears upon Jimma, a new track from the South Korea-born musician, Ki! This songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist likes to draw influences from every corner of the world which, as you can imagine, makes his music extra-interesting. Citing inspirations from the likes of Fela Kuti, Sharon Jones,George Harrison, J Dilla, Link Wray and Elizabeth Cotten (to name a few), his melting pot of sounds is something I intend to investigate further!
Jimma has a wonderfully authentic Ethio-jazz sound to it and, aptly named, pays homage to the largest city in the southwestern Oromia Region in Ethiopia! It’s sinuous melody is alluring and inviting, offering a much needed taste for my hungry ears to savour! I hope you enjoy! Listen above and if you fancy hearing a few more tracks off his upcoming album, Yong-Gwanglo Part One, you can do that here. I’ve also found a more in-depth write-up about him and this you can read, here!
See you in a week’s time!
