SONG OF THE DAY Sung-Jo Jung & The Messengers – Dark Alley

Jung Sung-Jo began working as a music director in the mid-70’s and throughout his career he worked on over 50 film scores, including Winter Woman, Lee Jang-ho’s Baseball Team and My Bride My Love.

He majored in classical flute at Seoul National University’s School of Music, and from that moment on  he was addicted to jazz!  Throughout the 1970’s he also led a band called ‘Jung Sung-jo and Messengers’ (along with Cho Kyeong-su and Choi Byung-geol ) and introduced the exotic sounds of jazz into film scores, playing the saxophone and flute himself.

Dark Alley sounds anything but dark with its high-groove flute-lead and bustling cymbal work in the background, but this is the title of today’s very funky song! It appeared on his 1975 debut soundtrack    어제 내린 비 which, for those who are not fluent in Korean, translates as It Rained Yesterday. It’s a bit of an ear worm, but I don’t mind this wriggling through my mind! Check it out above..
