SONG OF THE DAY Amon Tobin – Bridge **(LP Blog will be back next week….)**

R-4643212-1507839889-3568Though its easy to get lost in the wildness of this track, one also emerges feeling a sense of harmony; such is the juxtaposition in the order and chaos that it brings. Over the past two decades, Amon Tobin has been hailed throughout the world as a major figure in electronic music

Brazilian-born Amon Adonai Santos de Araújo Tobin, better known as Amon Tobin, emerged in the mid-1990’s under the pseudonym of Cujo. Whilst living in Brighton, he continued to release under this alias, issuing a series of singles, EPs, and remixes, In late 1996, he switched to an abbreviation of his own name and was signed to Ninja Tune, where he stayed until 2015. As of 2019, he started to release on his own label, Nomark Records.

Tobin’s recordings have grown from solo creations to varied collaborations and his live shows, like his music creations, have continued to evolve. His music has also made it into various TV programmes, as well as film and computer games!.

Now residing in the US, Tobin continues to record, but my knowledge of his repertoire is fairly limited and today’s song is one of only a couple that I am familiar with.

Bridge is one of his earlier recordings and features on the1998 album, Permutation. What really struck me about this track the first time I heard it was that sizable rhythmic intro! Almost big band-style in feel, the drums are pretty epic, dominating the feel throughout. Lots of accented snare drum beats activate the senses, while plush lulls defined by a carpet of that feathery ride cymbal add an interesting dynamic…It’s an interesting listen! Enjoy!
